If you’re new to growing cannabis, autoflowers are a foolproof way to get started. Unlike photoperiod indica and sativa strains, which require specific amounts of light to start flowering, autoflowering strains will grow buds regardless of how much light they receive, so they’re great for beginners.
Follow these techniques to easily grow autoflowers from germination to harvest.
Before you get started, you’ll need the right equipment. If you’re planning to grow indoors, you’ll need a grow tent, a grow light, a large bucket or pot with drainage holes for each plant, a fan for air circulation, and loose, well-draining soil. If you’re growing outdoors, prepare a suitable area where your plants will get plenty of sun.
You’ll also need seeds and fertilizer. SeedsPlug has a huge variety of Fast Buds modern autoflower seeds. We offer affordable shipping throughout the US, from Phoenix to Philadelphia, Dallas, Miami, and anywhere in between.
Before you can enjoy a smoke, you’ll need to dry and cure your buds. Allow the buds to dry thoroughly by hanging them up for a couple of weeks.
Once they’ve dried, cure the buds in airtight containers or jars. Open and close the jars once a day to let the moisture escape. You can test if your buds are cured by trying to snap a stem – if it bends instead of breaking, they’re not fully dry. It takes about a month to cure your buds completely.
Germination: To give your autoflower seeds the best chance of sprouting, germinate them in a cup of water or a damp paper towel before planting them in the soil. Handle the seeds gently throughout the process, and avoid touching them too much with your bare hands.
Transplanting: We don’t recommend transplanting your autoflower plants. Since autoflowers grow more quickly than other types of cannabis, transplanting puts unnecessary stress on the plants. Instead, start your autoflower plants in a large pot so they can grow to their full potential.
pH levels: Check your pH levels often. The ideal pH for autoflowers is between 6.0 and 7.0 for plants growing in soil. (Hydroponic plants and other methods do best with a slightly lower pH.)
Overwatering or underwatering: Autoflowers do best when they alternate between wet and dry phases, so don’t water them until the top layer of soil is dry. Make sure to use soil with plenty of drainage so your plants don’t stay too wet.
Overfeeding or underfeeding: Use a fertilizer with a mixture of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, and sulfur that’s appropriate for cannabis. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and start with lower amounts to avoid overfeeding. We don’t recommend using an all-purpose fertilizer like Miracle Gro
No buds:If your cannabis plant doesn’t produce any buds, it may be a male plant. Only female plants produce buds. Many companies like Fast Buds offer feminized autoflower seeds, so you know that all the plants you grow will produce buds.
Using a trellis or support for your autoflower plants can increase yields. This allows the plant to spread out and create more buds.
Some modern autoflower varieties are known for high yields, including Orange Sherbet, Bruce Banner, Amnesia Zkittlez, Wedding Cheesecake, Gorilla Glue, and Stardawg. These strains produce about 1.5-2 oz of dried buds per foot indoors or about 2-10 oz per plant outdoors.
