Northern Lights is one of the most famous and sought-after “Indica” strains of all time. Considered a descendant of Afghani and Thai landrace strains, the exact origin of Northern Lights remains a bit of a mystery. It may have originated in Washington in the 1970s, prior to reaching the Netherlands, where breeder Neville Schoenmaker pioneered several Northern Lights phenotypes in the ’80s for The Seed Bank, an early iteration of Sensi Seeds.
Since 1985, when Sensi Seeds first commercialized this strain, Northern Lights has been a landmark Indica strain in cannabis culture. Northern Lights #5 — arguably the most popular Northern Lights phenotype — won the Cannabis Cup in 1989, 1990, and 1992. I have always grown feminized photoperiods, but decided to give autos a try. I did a lot of research and thought this breeder would be a great place to start, lo and behold they have strains I am familiar with and have grown before (just not autoflowering form) . I grew this one outdoors and she was completely covered in trichomes. smelled nice too – a rather subtle floral and herbal smell. I decided not to trim her because that seemed like a lot of work. just cut the fan leaves that had no trichomes and let her dry

I was impressed by the amount of resin NL produces. The crystals cover everything. Even large fan leaves on top have fur on them halfway from the stalk. And I swear if you roll the stems between your fingers you can gather some finger hash from them too because they’re also sticky! I shuuder to think how potent the smoke will be once it cured properly!

it’s a shame I lost the main cola because it really hurt the final yield. I didn’t see it coming because the bud on top didn’t even look that heavy. well, I harvested it with the majority of trichs still clear and the high is also clear in the head but with a pleasant and quite strong body buzz. the rest of the plant is drying now, haven’t got a chance to try it yet

grow her under a nice powerful light like I did and she will me amazing – very compact but high yielding due the size and denseness of buds. they’re hard like rocks and sticky. and one more thing – its a very stable genetics. I grew three plants and they looked exactly the same – short and bushy.
